The plant-based ramen brand lands inside the JR Akihabara Station ticket gate
JR East Cross Station Foods Company announced on July 23, 2026 that the vegan noodle specialist T's Tantan will open a new location at ecute Akihabara, just outside the JR Akihabara Station Electric Town ticket gate, on August 7, 2026. The shop becomes the latest addition to the ecute Akihabara commercial facility, which opened in April 2025 inside the station and targets office workers and visitors with quick-service shops that shift by time of day.
The brand operates under the concept Smile-veg, serving ramen and side dishes made entirely without meat, seafood, eggs, or dairy. The signature is the Kin Goma Tantan Men (golden sesame tantan noodles), which uses a proprietary sesame base to deliver the richness and depth normally associated with animal-derived stock. The Akihabara opening continues a multi-station expansion that includes Tokyo, Ueno, Ikebukuro, and Narita Airport.
Signature menu and the special Akihabara set
The headline item at the new store is the Kin Goma Tantan Men Special (wheat noodles) and T's Veg Gyoza 12-piece set, priced at 3,300 yen tax included and available only as eat-in. The tantan men comes topped with charcoal-grilled veg char siu made from plant proteins and a creamy cheese-style topping made from soy milk. The set is the only menu item that ships with the original logo monaka wafer, making it effectively the store Instagram souvenir option.
The T's Veg Gyoza, the chain second-most popular item, is engineered to deliver a juicy, savory bite entirely from vegetables. The dumplings have built a following among non-vegan customers who report they cannot tell the filling is plant-based. The set is designed to showcase the full range of the kitchen on a single tray.
Opening commemoration campaigns
Two campaigns run from opening day. The first is the T's Tantan Original TRAIL BOTTLE, priced at 2,500 yen tax included, sold at ecute Akihabara as well as the Tokyo, Ueno, Ikebukuro, and Narita Airport locations. The bottle is pitched as a travel and hydration companion, doubling as a physical memento of the visit. The second is a cross-store stamp rally spanning the five T's Tantan locations, where customers collect stamps at each store to receive a special item on full completion. Stamp rally culture is increasingly popular with inbound tourists as an experiential souvenir, and the campaign is explicitly designed to capture that audience.
Why ecute Akihabara and why now
The ecute Akihabara facility is a relatively new addition to the station, having opened in April 2025. It is operated by the JR East Cross Station Development Company and positions itself as a 365-day quick-service retail environment for the station mixed foot traffic of office workers, commuters, and tourists. Adding a vegan noodle specialist fills a dietary niche that the existing Akihabara restaurant landscape does not cover well, and the brand explicitly cites inbound tourist demand for plant-based Japanese food as a driver.
For Akihabara specifically, the arrival matters because it places plant-based Japanese cuisine directly inside the station ticket gate, meaning visitors can eat vegan ramen without leaving the station or even exiting the JR fare zone. The Electric Town ticket gate location is the one most used by tourists heading to the Akihabara electronics and anime district, so the shop is positioned at the point of maximum inbound foot traffic.
