Koda Shrine Kaguraden at Akihabara, Tokyo

The sacred kagura dance hall of Kanda Shrine in Sotokanda.

The Kanda Shrine Kaguraden is the sacred dance hall within the grounds of Kanda Shrine at 2-17-6 Sotokanda in Chiyoda, near Akihabara. The hall is used for kagura, the ceremonial Shinto music and dance performed during festivals and special rituals, including the Kanda Festival, one of Tokyo's three great festivals held in mid-May. Kanda Myojin is one of Tokyo's oldest shrines, originally built around 1,300 years ago and moved to its current site in 1616.

The Kaguraden also supports the shrine's ceremony and cultural-event programming, sitting alongside the main hall and the many commemorative monuments along the rear approach. The shrine is free to enter and a seven-minute walk from Akihabara Station, with a cultural community centre on its second floor.
