Animate Akihabara — Japan's largest anime goods retailer — opens on New Year's Day at 11:00 for its annual fukubukuro (lucky bag) sale. Five tiers range from ¥1,000 to ¥10,000, with the premium ¥10,000 bag containing approximately 45 items potentially worth ~¥50,000.
The fukubukuro contain a mix of anime goods, acrylic stands, and limited-edition items. Lines form early on New Year's Day — this is one of Akihabara's most anticipated January events, drawing fans who combine it with hatsumode at nearby Kanda Myojin.
