About This Event / イベントについて
The Kanda Matsuri is one of Tokyo's three great festivals, held in odd-numbered years. The full festival (honmatsuri) features the spectacular Shinkosai — a procession of 500 people in Heian-era costumes parading from Kanda Myojin through Akihabara Electric Town, Marunouchi, and Nihonbashi.
The festival's highlight is the Mikoshi Miyairi, when approximately 200 portable shrines (mikoshi) from neighborhoods across Kanda and Akihabara converge on Kanda Myojin over two days. The next full festival is in May 2027 — one of the most dramatic events to hit the streets of Akihabara.
