About This Event / イベントについて

Kanda Myojin's Setsubun Festival is one of the shrine's most distinctive ceremonies. It begins with the Meigen-no-gi — an ancient archery ritual in which priests in Heian-era warrior attire shoot arrows toward the demon gate (kimon) and rear demon gate (ura-kimon) of the shrine grounds.

This is followed by mamemaki (bean-throwing) at 14:00, where celebrities and year-zodiac participants scatter lucky beans to drive away demons and invite good fortune. Kanda Myojin is the guardian shrine of Edo Castle's demon gate — making its Setsubun especially significant. A short walk from Akihabara.
