For just six evenings each spring, Yasukuni Shrine opens the doors of its grand Shinmon gate after dark, revealing the inner garden's cherry trees bathed in soft illumination. The effect is striking — a quiet, mysterious landscape that feels worlds apart from the bustling daytime hanami crowds.
This yozakura mode (night cherry viewing) runs from 18:00 to 20:00, March 26 through 31. It's a short, free event — perfect as the centerpiece of an evening cherry blossom walk from Akihabara through Chidorigafuchi and Yasukuni.
